Julia Stringfellow, Candidate for Regent for Membership
What ideas do you have for liaising between the ACA Board and the membership?
There are several opportunities to pursue for liaising between the ACA Board and the Certified Archivists community. The monthly virtual happy hours that began during the pandemic are a great way to bring the Board and membership together regularly and check in. These happy hours will hopefully continue. The active presence of ACA on Facebook is another great way for the Board and members’ community to communicate.
An idea for another way to liaise is a listserv for the Board and membership to share ideas and ask questions. Another way to stay connected is for the Board members and C.A.s to gather and socialize at conferences of regional organizations, whether it’s for an in-person happy hour or a meal. Learning and connecting with Board members and C.A.s who live in your region is a great way to enhance community between the two groups. A final idea I will share is the Board providing more videos on the ACA YouTube channel where they recruit members to share why they decided to pursue being a Certified Archivist, tips and tools for preparing for and passing the exam and for recertification, and how certification has benefitted them. Providing videos of firsthand experiences will inspire more archivist to pursue certification and provide another way for the Board and membership to connect. In closing, different methods of active communication between the Board and the members’ community is key for the two groups to stay connected and thrive.
