Christine Liebson, Candidate for the Nominating Committee
What is your experience with the ACA , and how would you find members to run for office?
My experience with the ACA is as a new member navigating certification maintenance and learning how I may serve the Academy. To find members to run for office I would start as early as possible, work collaboratively with other members of the Nominating Committee, and focus on connecting with CAs in all of my professional activities. I think embracing the process as a year-round activity will be important, as well as being open to suggestions and to people curious about roles. Consulting with re-elected or past Nominating Committee members to learn precedents, recommended strategies, and resources available for communicating with members would be a next step. I would schedule time to talk with current officers, to get their perspective on the time commitment, skills, or interests that they feel are necessary for the responsibilities of their positions. I would plan to attend ACA member happy hours (if they continue in 2023-2024) to help get to know members and their interests outside of my local area. When calling for nominations, I would seek to use multiple outlets (facebook, email, listservs, etc) and include information about each role, how members can indicate interest or provide a nomination, and the timeline. I have been glad to receive assistance from the Academy throughout the
process of maintaining my certification and look forward to giving back through service on the nominating committee or other volunteer opportunities as they arise.
